Why in-person leadership is more important now than ever

Coordination and communication are everything as a leader. Working right now to coordinate a music video for an absolutely beautiful track we recorded for Duff Radio which features contributions from 7-8 different artists from all walks of life.

It’s difficult to get all of those bodies in the same place at once. We tried to shoot this video once already a few weeks back and had to reschedule due to timing issues BUT ALSO due to poor communication at scale.

If the communication and coordination on a project isn’t 100% clean, the project will fail or stall. This is especially true if it’s a passion project or something that people aren’t directly making money from.

I’ve found creating a group message is the easiest way to communicate with multiple people at once - a group message creates a ton of leverage and saves time on individual texts/calls. Group messages are how the last two Duff Radio Mixtapes came about. But ultimately, the enthusiasm and attitude of the leader has a tremendous impact on those around him when it comes to working on a project.

“Why are we doing what we’re doing? How is this task important?” This type of dialogue always needs to be reinforced when working within a team.

This same concept applies to intimate and business relationships as well. Over communicating is always better than under communicating. As digital tools like AI, social media, and the Internet as a whole continue to be democratized and available to everyone, those who can communicate a vision and organize people in-person (not just online) will reap major benefits. Ironically, the ability to cut through the online noise and create genuine, real-world connections has become a rare and more valuable skill in the Internet age.
