A Life of Freedom
At times, I sit down to work, and it feels like there are a million different directions to choose from. However, it’s important to pick the one that pays the most. For me, those possibilities are ghostwriting for clients in the legal niche and putting out books.
I made less than $100 in lifetime sales during the publication of my first ten self-published works. Some of them were written entirely by me in diary format. I used AI to propel my works of fiction along. I also used ChatGPT to do much of the research for my first book, Going Inward, a book on spirituality, religion, and mysticism.
My next work is a collection of poems I wrote during my year spent in the mountains outside of Chama, New Mexico. They were entirely written by hand, a tactic I picked up from C.S. Lewis.
Part of life as a writer is finding the ideal audience. It has taken 5 years of repetition to figure out who my audience is and where they live. Each of the social media platforms are different. I have leaned into the ones that work best for me. I’ve put in a ton of work (800 videos on YouTube with Duff Radio, 2,500 tweets). I’ve learned that a publicly executed idea is infinitely more valuable than an idea that stays in my head. I have had so many projects that I started and stopped and then picked back up again.
The key is to work with speed and efficiency. Whether it’s creating music, shooting video, or writing for the web, the execution must be fast and professional. It’s the only way to be seen.
There’s so much noise online right now. People are taking in thousands of pieces of content per week and remembering almost none of it. How do I stand out? The answer is consistency and love for the game.
I’m obsessed with working remotely and owning my time. I have achieved a life of near maximum freedom because I never stopped the pursuit of my ideal. I know I only get this one life. I’m not going to waste it.
I leave behind great works of art for baby Torin to explore. I created my own cultural museum for him to find and engage with throughout his own life. I have set him up for a life of leadership and passion and experience.
I love my life. That energy is contagious. It rubs off on those around me. I can’t contain my excitement for learning new things. My thirst for knowledge is never quenched. I am the best version of myself.
I’ve survived in some incredible places. I was cold and lonely working as a journalist in Hardin, Montana. I wrote my way out of that situation, earning enough money to move back across the country to start a family. I write my way out of all dangerous situations. Writing is the act of manifestation. By thinking these thoughts, I bring them into reality. Putting pen to paper is just the finalization. What I write, goes.
So, what’s the gameplan? KEEP WRITING. Publish more intellectual property. THAT is where opportunity comes from. Stay physically strong and fit. It’s a long journey. DECADES OF WORK ARE REQUIRED. I’ll say that again. Decades of work are a requirement. It’s the norm for mastery. I’m not afraid of that. I embrace the sheer volume of work ahead of me. It will be long and grueling, but worth it.
I continue to find the right people to listen to. Mentorship from those who have the type of life I want - freedom, the ability to move geographically, strong social connections, and wealth in ways that truly matter. There’s such a world out there as a writer. WE HAVE THE INTERNET! I don’t think we will have it forever, so take this time and capitalize on it. Multiple streams of revenue, all from the Internet.
Young Ty would be very proud. I never sold out. I continued to write and create art and exercise and stimulate my intellect.
Having a young child myself takes me back into the world I knew as a kid. I loved animals and reading and writing stories. I’m no different now, I just learned how to make money flow to me. It was against my nature at first, but a lot of thought and meditation have shown me the right ways to provide for my family using my gifts. There’s nothing I can’t accomplish.
I’m unbelievably thankful. Anyone who is successfully building a business should be. Anyone who is building a family should be. Times were not always like this. I got every single thing I asked for. The universe put me in the circumstances I needed to be in to grow into the type of man I had to be to live the life I want to live. It’s insanely difficult, but it’s important to breathe and take small moments like this to reflect when things aren’t immediately chaotic.
Ultimately, life is what we make of it. It’s our perception that matters. Keeping it positive and focused on abundance, visualization, and manifestation is where I choose to exist.
